Those of you fascinated by wild life will enjoy a visit to the Admiralty Island and Pack Creek Bear Preserve, US Forest Service, 101 Egan Dr, call 907-586-8751 for information and the required permit to visit Pack Creek. This island holds the honor of being home to the largest concentration of brown bears in the world. For natural beauty without big teeth, head to Glacier Bay, Gustavus, AK, about 50 miles northwest of Juneau by air. Here you'll find more than 16 glaciers and a lovely little town to explore.
Two other fun places to visit by plane or boat are the Taku River, about 20 miles southeast of town, and the Tracy Arm, about 30 miles further out. The Taku River features several glaciers, a lodge, and regularly scheduled salmon bakes. The 30-mile long Tracy Arm Fjord will thrill you with its beautiful cliffs and the Twin Sawyer Glaciers.
