John Hunt of Virginia arrived here in 1805 and the settlement
that sprang up was called Twickenham. In 1811 the town folks
decided to rename it Huntsville in his honor.
How did Huntsville get its start in the space race? In 1950,
118 German rocket scientist hit town and began working to develop
rockets for Redstone Arsenal. From this modest beginning, Huntsville
now has bragging rights to the 3rd largest high-tech work force
in the US.
