American Journeys RV Travel Information
QUARTZSITE SNAP-SHOT Return to State Index Want a classic RV experience? Then you need to spend at least a few winter days in Quartzsite. Between November and March, this desert community of 2,000 blossoms into a full-blown happening complete with huge flea markets, the Quartzsite Powwow, a special 10-day long RV show, and four of the best rock and mineral shows in the country.
Also in town you'll find the Snowbird Center to help you get you bearings, the Quartzsite Museum, Celia's Rainbow Garden and Nature Trail, and the Bubble Gum Museum. Before you head out to Quartzsite, you'll want to decide how you want to camp. Many of the annual 750,000+ RVers just dry camp in the desert on BLM land. But for those of us who are less adventurers there are 72 developed RV parks, where reservations are recommended.
You'll also need to pack some extra patience as driving here during high season can be a challenge. The roads are packed and parking can be a challenge. So head out early and take your time. On the days you intend to shop, I'd also recommend you carry some extra water and a backpack to carry all the things you won't be able to live without. You'll also need sun screen and a hat.
As you walk through the numerous flea markets, don't be surprised to see duplicated items. We found prices did vary so it pays to just look for a couple of days and then go back and do your shopping. Of course, this also means you have to tax your memory for where you saw the best prices. Or like us, you could just wander around in circles until you bump into the bargain you've been searching for.
For show dates and more information head to The Quartzsite RV Show site.
