GOOD FOOD

If what your tummy cries for is great Mexican food head to Old Town's Bazaar del Mundo, Old Town San Diego State Historic Park Visitors Center, 2461 San Diego Ave, 619-291-1019, where you'll find lots of authentic restaurants like Casa de Pico, 2754 Calhoun St., 619-296-3267; which has great food, along with historic museums, the Mission San Diego de Alcala, and Spanish-American shops, like Just Animals and Artes De Mexico. Love freshly made tortilla chips? Then you need to drop in at one of the El Indio Shops (1940), 3695 India St., 619-299-0394; 409 F St., 619-239-8151, for a couple of bags of yummy snacks.

One of our American Journeys RVers thinks you'll fall in love with the food at Las Cuatro Milpas,1857 Logan Avenue, take I-5 south to Crosby, turn left at the light, go about 500 feet, it's a tiny little place on the right side of the street. This restaurant was opened nearly 75 years ago and is still owned and operated by 2nd and 3rd generation descendants of the Estudillo family. Everything is made on site and the tortillas are hand pressed.

Always wanted to try fish tacos? Then you'll want to drop into the highly recommended El Indio Mexican Restaurant, 3695 India Street, 619-299-0333. Not sure about fish tacos? I wasn't either, but once you've sampled one of their's you'll be hooked. For more great seafood stop by The Green Flash, 701 Thomas Ave, 858-270-7715. Here you'll find hearty seafood platters, steamed clams, and if you are lucky you may even catch a great sunset.

And if you are in the fun-to-explore town of Oceanside, I know you will love the burgers and old fashioned malts at the historic Cafe 101, 631 South Coast Highway, Oceanside, 760-722-5220. Oceanside's oldest restaraurant was founded in 1928 and offers breakfast all day, homemade pies, lots of sandwiches, and great jukebox music and historic photos to enjoy while you wait for your plate.

For a great breakfast, head to Hob Nob Hill, 2271 First Ave, 619-239-8176, and enjoy hobnobbing with the locals as you wait in line. Open since 1944, this San Diego landmark was recently featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and serves great pecan waffles, blueberry hot cakes, smoked pork chops, plus wonderful bakery yummies you'll want to take back to your rig for another day. Can't make it for breakfast? They are also open for lunch and dinner when they feature great daily specials like chicken and dumplings, corn beef and cabbage, and braised beef short ribs.

Another fun spot highlighted on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives is also in San Diego. A visit to the Studio Diner, 4701 Ruffin Rd, 858-715-6400, will give you a chance to enjoy their wonderful pastrami Reuben, Monte Cristo sandwich, Ipswich clam roll, or Philly cheesesteak. Can't make it for lunch or dinner? Don't worry they also have wonderful breakfast choices like their cheese blintzes, crab cake Benedict, and Gilligan's omelet.
