A trip to Gaslamp Quarter, 410 Island Ave, 619-233-5227, will
allow you to combine history and shopping. This downtown district
is being totally refurbished and now features restaurants, theaters,
galleries, and shops to entertain you. If you'd like to take
a historic walking tour of the area they are offered on Saturdays
at 11:00 a.m. .Here you'll also find 150 stores and 20 trendy
restaurants like Planet Hollywood. 197 Horton Plaza, 619-702-7827,
Tiffany, Gucci, and Cartier. Then continue your shopping adventure
on the south end of town, along the waterfront, at Seaport Village,
W Harbor Dr. at Kettner Blvd., 619-232-7616 with its 75 small
shops, fun boutiques, and restaurants in a 1900s sea village
setting.
For more shopping opportunities jump on one of the water taxis
to Coronado Island's Ferry Landing Market Place. You'll also
want to explore the shops at Bazaar Del Mundo Old Town, San Diego
State Historic Park, just north of downtown at Juan Street, near
the intersection of I-5 and I-8, 619-296-3161. Here you'll find
17 unique stores, strolling mariahchis and Hispanic dancers,
garden courtyards, and great Mexican food at Casa de Pico. Also
while in Old Town, you'll want to check out Apache Indian Arts
Center & Gallery, 2525 San Diego Ave, 619- 688-1100; and
the Trading Post, 2802 Juan St., 619-298-4106.
If you love antiques, you'll want to head to Adams Ave, in
the Kensington neighborhood, north and east of downtown, where
you'll find over 20 stores like Alouette Antiques, 2936 Adams
Ave, 619-284-9408, selling everything from antique furniture
to collectable glass. Another great antique shopping center is
located at the Olde Cracker Factory Antiques, 448 W Market St.,
619-233-1669.
You'll find more fun shopping in La Jolla, CA, 15 miles northwest
of downtown. The streets you'll most want to explore? Girard
Avenue and Prospect Street. If you'd rather have a mega mall
adventure, then head east of La Jolla to University Towne Center,
between I-5 and Highway 805.
Bargain shoppers will find happiness at the Nordstrom Rack,
1640 Camino Del Rio, 619-296-0143; and the San Diego Factory
Outlet Center, Camino de la Plaza, San Ysidro, CA, last exit
off I-5 before the Mexican border, 619-690-2999. You'll find
more outlet shopping at the Lake Elsinore Outlet Center, 17600
Collier Ave, Lake Elsinore, CA, 800-969-3767; and the San Diego
North Country Factory Outlet Center, 1050 Los Vallecitos Blvd.,
San Marcos, CA, 760-595-5222. While in San Marcos, quilters will
want to stop in at the Quilt In A Day store, 1955 Diamond St.,
760-591-0929, 800-777- 4852, where they will find quilt books,
cotton fabrics, and quilting supplies.
If you love to browse through the wonderful stuff found at
flea markets, you'll want to head out early to Kobey's Swap Meet,
3500 Sports Arena Blvd., Thurs-Sunday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., 619-226-0650.
You'll find more adventuresome shopping across the border in
Tijuana at stores like Apple SA, Revolucion 812; Mexico Curios
Avenida, Revolucion 736; and Tolan SA, de CV Avenida Revolucion
1111.
Book lovers will want to head to the Hillcrest neighborhood,
north of Balboa Park, where they will find neat stores like Fifth
Ave Books, 3838 Fifth, 619-291-4660, which carries a wide assortment
of goodies plus some first editions.
Have you noticed one or two items you need for your rig? Then
you'll want to head to Jim's favorite toy store--Camping World.
You'll find one just chocked full of handy RV goodies at 200

If Goldilocks broke into your RV would she complain that your
fridge is a little bare? Then, if you are staying in Chula Vista,
