TIPS FOR TRAVELERS
Since you'll probably be spending a lot of time outside be
sure and pack a good shade hat and extra sun screen lotion. Since
it can get a little cool at night because of the gulf breezes
it's also wise to throw in a windbreaker.
When you are on the beach you may notice brightly colored
flags. These are meant to help you understand the condition of
the currents. A Green Flag means calm conditions and that you
can swim with usual care. A Yellow Flag indicates rough surf
or likely currents and that you should swim with special caution.
If you see a Red Flag flying it means that you should stay out
of the water due to dangerous conditions. Since as a visitor
you are not familiar with the ocean currents, it is wise to take
the extra precaution of only going in the water when there is
a lifeguard nearby.
And if, like Jim, you are allergic to bug stings, make sure
you check with your doctor for any allergy medications, a sting
kit, or insect repellant that you need cause they grow them big
down here. Also if you are planning your trip during March and
April don't be surprised to be surrounded by college students
as this is the traditional spring break period.
Remember that it is a Florida state law, that even during
the day time, you must turn your headlights on if it is raining.
Are you traveling with little fur babies? Then you'll be glad
to know that, in case of an emergency, you can contact the Pensacola
Animal Emergency Clinic, 3998 N Palafox St., 850-434-2924. Oh
and if your babies would like a chance to romp and roll while
in town head to either the Bayview Park on Bayou Texar where
you'll find a 1 acre dog park complete with its own beach or
to the Roger Scott Complex Dog Park on Summit Blvd where they
have parks for both big and little dogs.
