HISTORY

CLOSEST FREEWAY: I-94

APPROXIMATE POPULATION: 91,691

In 1795 a few French families began to put down roots in this area, making their living by farming the land. After the American victory in the War of 1812, American settlers began joining them and set up several townships. Needing a name, they decided on calling the largest one Dearborn, in honor of American Revolution General Henry Dearborn.

This new community saw itself grow as it became a stop on the Chicago Road and Michigan Central Railroad. Its real growth started though, in 1917 when local hometown boy, Henry Ford built the huge River Rouge Plant to assemble his new fangled tractors and Model T's.
