Taking I-15 North 16 miles will bring you to the Gates of
the Mountains, 406-458-5241. Here you can follow in Lewis and
Clarks' footsteps on a guided boat tour, which comes highly recommended
by one of our American Journeys RVers or take a self guided wildlife
spotting hike.
While in this Great
Falls area, you'll also want to visit the C.M. Russell Museum
of Western Art, the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, the Ulm
Pishkun Buffalo Jump Education Center, and the Lewis and Clark
Interpretive Center at Giant Springs State Park.
If you are more into winter sports, plan your trip during
ski season and head 20 miles northwest of Helena to the Great
Divide Ski Area, 406-449-3746. Here you'll discover 60 trails
on over 70 acres. If you're planning to take a side trip to Yellowstone
you'll find it only 176 miles away from Helena.
History buffs won't mind driving one hundred and thirty miles
to Fort Benton, MT where they will find the Museum of the Upper
Missouri, the Museum of the Northern Great Plains, foundations
of some of the old fort buildings at Old Fort Park, historical
statues and a replica keelboat at Levee Park along the Missouri
River, and wilderness float trips covering some of the same territory
as Lewis and Clark.
