TIPS FOR TRAVELERS

Since Santa Fe has both shops and street vendors it is probably wise to do some comparison shopping before you buy. Usually the price of items sold outdoors on the Plaza is negotiable, so you might want to practice your haggling.

Living at 7,000 feet may cause you to experience some side effects from the high altitude. What are some of the effects? You may feel lightheaded, dizzy, thirsty, have headaches, breathing problems, sleeplessness, or heart palpations. To make your high altitude experience more pleasurable make sure to drink plenty of water, plan your first couple of days to include lots of rest periods so your body has time to adjust, and avoid alcohol because one drink in Santa Fe equals three drinks at sea level. If you are under a doctor's care it is also a good idea to let him or her know you are planning a trip that will include higher elevations. They may have additional tips or wish to change medication levels, etc.

Since the mountain air cools quickly, even during the summer months, plan on packing clothes you can layer, including sweaters and jackets.

If you are traveling with fur babies, we hope they never get sick. But just to be on the safe side here are the names of a couple of local vets: the Emergency Veterinary Clinic, 1911 Saint Michaels Dr., 505-984-0625; and Cedarwood Small Animal Clinic, 2001 Saint Michaels Dr., 505-982-4469.
