MUSEUMS At the High Desert Museum, 6 miles south of Bend at 59800 S Highway 97, 541-382-4754, you'll be entertained and educated by displays of live animals, art galleries, pioneer and Native America exhibits, walk through historic scenes, and living history demonstrations. Galleries include the Hall of Plateau Indians, Historical and Contemporary Art of the Region, a Desertarium, and the Spirit of the West. After you finish strolling the 20 acres of nature trails, you'll want to head inside to the Desertarium where you'll find kangaroo rats and burrowing owls, plus eight walk-through dioramas.
