They can help you find that special restaurant, a place to get film developed, or if you're really lost just point you in the right direction. Since rain, or should I call it mist, is almost a daily occurrence in Portland it's wise to follow the example of the APP guides and keep a raincoat handy.
If you don't want to bother with driving to see all of the Portland sights, drop by the downtown Visitors Information Center, S W Front and Salmon, directly across from Salmon Street Springs in Tom McCall Waterfront Park, 503-222-2223; and catch the ART Cultural Bus #63. It makes stops at the International Rose Test Gardens, the Japanese Garden, the Lloyd Center, the Memorial Coliseum, the Oregon Zoo, the Oregon Convention Center, the Oregon History Center, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, the Portland Art Museum, the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and the World Forestry Center.
If you do decide to drive around Portland, it might help to know that the city is laid out in quadrants. Burnside Street is the north and south divider, and the Willamette River, separates east from west. Downtown addresses increase from 0 beginning at Burnside Street and Front Avenue.
Does one of your traveling companions insist on leading you around on a leash several times a day? Then you'll be glad to know that, in case of an emergency, you can contact the vets at the Companion Pet Clinic, 3345 NE 82nd Ave, 503-252-1601; or the Emergency Veterinary Clinic, 19314 SW Mohave Ct, Tualatin, 503-691-7922.
