If you are in town on a Saturday or Sunday from March to December,
you've got to make a trip to the Portland Saturday Market, under
the Burnside Bridge, 503-222-6072. Here you will find wonderful
handcrafts, food, and entertainment at a variety of booths. If
you're lucky, you'll see wonderful dried herbs, hand-crafted
wood wall sculptures, and whimsical creations of all kinds. Don't
worry if some of the folks working at the booths look like they
just stepped out of the woods. They probably did and will be
happy to go back once the market closes on Sunday. If you feel
your tummy start grumbling, even just a little, make it happy
with an Elephant's ear, a wonderful cinnamon sugary delight I
haven't been lucky enough to taste anywhere else.
Now don't frown if you can't make it to the Saturday Market
or don't find what you want there, because Portland has lots
of other fun craft stores to make you smile. Just for starters

for later that night back in your rig.

some miles on your car, you'll have fun hopping from mall to
mall. At the Barbara Jonhson's Clothing Outlet, 18005 SW Lower

brand clothing at 15% above wholesale. The Columbia Gorge Factory

Sportswear. If you send very many greeting cards a year, take
the time to stop at the Current Factory Outlet, 2770 SW Cedar

and stationary at 50-75% off original retail price.
Cotton lovers will want to drop by the Dehen Factory Outlet,

100% cotton knitwear for men and women. Heading down Highway
101 will take you to the Factory Stores at Lincoln City, 1500

If you've always longed to wrap yourself up in a cozy Pendleton
blanket but hesitated because of the cost, drop by the Woolen

find lower prices on their lovely goods. Nike fans will want
to visit the NIKE Portland Factory Store, 2650 NE Martin Luther
King Blvd., 503-281-5901, where they will find lots of Nike stuff

If you don't find what you want there and don't mind paying
full price head over to Nike Town Portland, 930 SW Sixth Ave,
503-221-6453, where you'll find more Nike stuff than anywhere
else. For more fun speciality shopping stop by the Pioneer Place,

Book lover's will want to make just one more stop--Powell's
Books, 100 W Burnside, 800-878-7323. It's one million plus used,
new, and out-of-print volumes make it the largest bookstore in
the US. As you enter, be sure you pick up one of the Powell's
City of Books maps,which will help direct you to the 4,000 subject
areas you are most interested in. If you love books, set aside
at least half a day to explore their huge inventory. This is
one store I'd love to get locked in over a long weekend!

and 23rd Avenues, 503-297-3454. As you stroll these streets you'll
be not only enchanted by the 250 unique shops and eateries but
also by the Victorian and Georgian mansions that line these historic
streets.
