In Newport, OR you'll find Mariner Square, 250 SW Bay Blvd., 541-265-2206, and the Wax Works. Also in Newport is the Oregon Coast Aquarium, 2820 SE Ferry Slip Road, 541-867- 3474. A visit here will give you a chance to learn about all the sea creatures that call this coast home.

While Astoria, OR can entertain you with its Fort Stevens State Park, Historic Fort Clatsop, the Clatsop County Historical Museum, and the Columbia River Maritime Museum.

Bill and Jean were so impressed by the Academy Award nominated film shown in their giant screen theater, that they bought a video tape to take home so they could watch it again. They think you'll agree that the 50 minute drive north is worth the effort. Once you finish here, you'll want to make the drive to the Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center, east on Spirit lake Memorial Highway, for a closer view of the volcano's red zone. Once you've explored this area, continue on to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, where you'll get the closest possible view of the volcano's crater.

A trip up to Florence, OR, will give you a chance to visit Sea Lions Caves, 91560 Highway 101 North, 541-547-3111. This is America's largest sea cave and year-round home for wild Steller sea loins. If you want to feed sea loins, head to Seaside and the Seaside Aquarium, 200 N Prom, Seaside, OR, 503-738-6211.

Another fun stop is the High Desert Museum, 59800 S Highway 97, Bend, OR, 541-382- 4754. At this living history museum, you'll learn about both the area's natural and cultural history, see live animals, explore trails, and visit their art gallery.
