A great first stop in Sioux Falls is the Falls Park on the Big Sioux River, Falls Park Drive & Weber Ave, 605-367-7430. As you wander this 42-acre park, you'll find the Visitors Information Center, the Horse Barn Art Center where artists demonstrate their art, the remains of the Queen Bee Mill, the Sioux Falls Light and Power Company hydroelectric plant, and the Millrace and Dam. After you finish exploring for the day, you'll want to return for the Sound and Light Show, ½ hour after sunset, weather permitting, Memorial Day-Labor Day.

Another great stop is the Sertoma Butterfly House, Sertoma Park, 4320 S Oxbow Ave, 605-334-9466. A visit here will give you a chance to experience over 800 free-flying butterflies. Then head on to their Purdy Marine Cove where you can enjoy the company of marine animals that call the 2,500 gallon freshwater and saltwater aquariums home.

Next head to downtown Sioux Falls, where you can hop a ride on the free Trolley, 605-367-7183, for one of their "Past is Present" downtown rides. Once you've got your bearings, you'll want to spend more time at some of their historic sites like the Old Courthouse Museum, 200 W 6th St, 605-367-4210; the Pettigrew Home & Museum, 131 N Duluth Ave, 605-367-7097; and the U.S.S. South Dakota Battleship Memorial, 12th St & Kiwanis Ave.

If you have a science lover in your party, don't miss the Kirby Science Discovery Center, Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science, 11th & Main Ave, 605-367-6000. Here you will find over 80 hands-on exhibits and live demonstrations. During your visit you can fly a space shuttle, launch a hot air balloon, touch a tornado, or dig for dinosaurs.

Another interesting science-oriented stop is the Sioux Empire Medical Museum, 1100 South Euclid Ave, Sioux Valley Hospital, 605-333-6397. A visit to this small museum will give you a chance to learn about medical advancements from the early 1900s to present day.

If you just want to have fun, grab some tickets for the Catfish Bay Water Ski Park,5600 N Showplace 605-339-0911. Billed as the greatest show on H20, a summer night spent here will give you a chance to see stunts like human pyramids, barefoot water skiing, and amazing ski jumps. Too tame for you? Then head to the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum, 805 S Kiwanis, 605-367-7059. Here you can visit over 400 beasties scattered over 45 acres.

When the shopping bug hits you, you'll find lots of cures in Sioux Falls. For wonderful Native American art head to the Northern Plains Tribal Art Gallery, 817 N Elmwood Ave, 605-334-4060. They feature only original art including oil paintings, jewelry, watercolors, and sculpture. You'll also want to visit the Prairie Star Gallery, 4802 S. Cliff Ave, 605-338-9300; the Crafters' Mall, 3510 W 41st St, 605-362-9747;Ten Thousand Villages, 200 S Phillips Ave, 605-335-6209; the Great Outdoor Store, 235 S Phillips Ave, 605-335-1132; and all the stores in Empire Mall, I-29, exit 77 on 41st St, 605-361-3300.

If Christmas is your favorite time of year, you won't mind making the short drive north on Highway 11 to Garretson, SD and Christmas in The Attic, 505 Third St, 605-594-2225. Here you'll find not only all kinds of wonderful Christmas goodies and displays but also an old- fashioned soda fountain to help you keep your strength up.

Now as you can see, you aren't going to be able to do all of this in just one day, so why not settle down at the Sioux Falls KOA, 1401 E Robur Dr, 605-332-9987. Here you'll find full hookups, some pull-thrus, restrooms, a laundry, a pool, a game room and convenience store.
