Art lovers will enjoy spending some time at the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture, 1715 Volunteer Blvd., UT Campus, 865-974-3200, where they can experience the works of international and local avant-garde artists and architects. Next head to the Knoxville Museum of Art, 410 Tenth St., World's Fair Park, 865-525-6101. Here you will find both permanent and traveling exhibits of world famous artist as you wander through the galleries and great hall.

Science lovers will enjoy stopping at the American Museum of Science and Energy, 300 S Tulane Ave, Oak Ridge, TN, 865-576-3200. Here you can learn about energy through models, movies, demonstrations, devices, and machines. During WWII, Oak Ridge was a super-secret city because of all the important energy work it was doing for the war effort. It is still considered a world famous center for energy research and development.

At the East Tennessee Discovery Center and Akima Planetarium, 516 Beaman St., 865-594-1494, you can learn about natural history, world culture, and the stars. For a little more modern day history, head to the East Tennessee Historical Society and Museum, 600 Market St., 865-215-8824, where you can learn about East Tennessee's 200 year history.

Next head to the Farragut Folklife Museum, 1408 Municipal Dr., Farragut, TN, I-40/75 & exit 373, 865-966-7057. Here you'll find a large collection of East Tennessee artifacts and the David Glassgow Farragut Gallery which includes an extensive collection of the personal belongings of Admiral Farragut. Can't quite place who Admiral Farragut was? He holds the distinction of being the first Admiral of the US Navy and is also a Civil War hero.

For something a little different head to the Knoxville Academy of Medicine Museum, 422 Cumberland Ave, 865-524-4676. Here you'll find exhibits of instruments, furniture, pictures, and medical books dating from 1798. At the Frank H McClung Museum, Circle Park Drive, UT Campus, 865-974-2144, you'll find an interesting mix of exhibits on anthropology, archaeology, decorative arts, medicine, and local and natural history.
