The short 16-mile drive north to Norris, TN will give you a chance to step back through time as you visit the Museum of the Appalachia, I-75 & exit 122, 865-494-7680. Here you can take a leisurely stroll through a replica of a pioneer village and farm. On the grounds you'll also find the Appalachian Hall of Fame, a school house, livestock, jail cells, and in the display barn you can learn about the wonderful story of Brother Harrison Mayes, an evangelist who put up signs about God in all 50 states.

Before leaving Norris, stop at the Community Craft Center and Cooperative, 2716 Andersonville Hwy, 865-494-9854. Here you'll find crafts by over 80 area artisans, including baskets, pottery, weaving, quilts, stained glass, jewelry, folk art, clothing, wood, leather, dolls, and toys. If you plan your visit on a Tuesday through Thursday, you can even see some of the artisans at work.

Less than an hour away you'll find yourself in Gatlinburg, TN with its Chirstus Garden, Great Smoky Mountains Arts & Crafts Community store, and Quilts by Wilma; and Pigeon Forge where you can play at Dollywood and bag bargains at four outlet malls.

You are also only about an hour away from one of our neatest national parks. A trip to the Great Smokey National Park will give you a chance to see pioneer buildings and homesteads dating from the 1840s to 1930s, more species of plants than in any other area of the US, and at least some of the 50 species of mammals that call these beautiful mountains home. While at the park, you can wander some of the 900 miles of hiking trails, enjoy a lazy drive over the 170 miles of road, visit the Mingus Mill, and learn more about the area at the turn of the century by visiting the Mountain Farm Museum.
