SIGHT SEEING

You can step back into Fredericksburg's past at Fort Scott Martin, which was set up in 1848 to protect the settlers. Here you can see the Officer's Quarters E, a guardhouse, and some of the original fort documents at the visitors center. If you are lucky, your visit will fall during one of the four summer weekend reenactments.

To enjoy the area's special Texas beauty, head to Enchanted Rock State Natural area where you'll find 8 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and rock climbing. If you are traveling to this area during blue bonnet season, I highly recommend driving the Willow City loop in your tow vehicle. The first part of the journey you may wonder why, but trust me, as the trip continues you'll see some stunning Texas scenery. For more outdoor beauty, head to Wildseed Farms, 100 Legacy Drive, 800-848-0078.In addition to great plants, you will also find a fun Market Center on site with jams, sauces, books, t-shirts, and other goodies to tempt you.

Taking a tour of the Jeep Collins Jewelry Workshop, 310 Post Oak Rd, 800-343-9757, will give you a chance to see how all that lovely stuff you crave is made.
