HISTORY

CLOSEST FREEWAY: I-94

APPROXIMATE POPULATION: 31,386

Menomonee Falls is a Village that got its start as Stone City. How did it come by this early name? When Joseph Hatfield started building the largest quarry in the state, his workers needed somewhere to live so they built their houses out of stone at the southeast end of the quarry. Naturally this became known as Stone City. That is until the local folks who lived here decided that Menomonee Falls sounded better, Menomonee being the Potawatomi word for wild rice.
