If you enjoy places with creative atmospheres, try the Safe House, look for the door with the brass nameplate that says "International Exports, LTD.," 779 N Front St., 414-271-2007. Its "James Bond" spy decor, music and themed food and drink will probably make you feel very dangerous and dashing.
For a great deli sandwich head to Benjamin's Deli, 4156 N Oakland Ave, 414-332-7777. If you'd rather have something a little spicier, try the yummy barbeque at Miss Katie's Diner, 1900 W Clybourn Ave, 414-344-0044. If wonderful hamburgers are more to your liking, drop into Jessica's Drive-In Custard Stand, 10300 W Fisher Pkwy, 414-744-1119. Then stop by the Wisconsin Cheese Mart, 215 W Highland, 414-272-3544, for domestic and imported cheeses, honeys, syrups, jellies, mustards, crackers, candies, and bulk coffees.
Though I can't guarantee you won't take some of this home with you squashed around your waist, I think a visit to the Chocolate Tree, 1048 Old World Third St., 414-271-5774, is worth the risk. But plan on spending some time, because you'll have to choose between the largest selection of chocolates and candies in Wisconsin.
